The Hoover Company is introducing two new Hoover Windtunnel
vacuums part of the elf Propelled WindTunnel™
Bagless upright collection that promise high convenience
and superior performance at a competitive price.
"These Hoover Windtunnel upright vacuum cleaners have
some of our best convenience features and offer a performance
level that is unparalleled in a bagless upright," said
David Baker, vice president of marketing. "To consumers,
this combination will be a powerful incentive to step up to
a more premium-priced product."
Chief among the features is Hoover's patented WindTunnel
technology. Channels within the agitator cavity direct dirt
away from the brush roll and toward the air path. This technology
has been proven to improve cleaning effectiveness.
Enhanced with WindTunnel technology, the Hoover Self Propelled
WindTunnel Bagless upright picks up more dirt than any other
upright - period! This is verified by extensive testing using
the ASTM International's Standard Test Method F608, which
is the only industry-wide accepted cleaning-effectiveness
standard.
The new Hoover Windtunnel vacuum models are also self-propelled,
making vacuuming virtually effortless. They are self-powered
in both forward and reverse direction, thanks to a mechanism
in the handle that responds to the motion of the hand.
Both Windtunnel models also have Hoover's Twin Chamber™
bagless design. The Twin Chamber system, previously introduced,
uses a divided receptacle to capture dirt without a bag. Heavy
particles collect in a first chamber, while fine particles
pass into a second chamber, where a long-life HEPA filter
captures them. This design extends the life of the HEPA filter.
The HEPA filter also has a Teflon® coating that tends
to shed dirt, an action that further prolongs the life of
the filter.
- A hand tool with a turbine-powered agitator is included.
It can be placed on the hose end and used for cleaning stairs
and upholstery. It is stored in an up-front, covered compartment
that's always within easy reach.
- The agitator can be turned off for bare-floor cleaning.
The user can tell whether the agitator is on or off with
a glance at an indicator on the upright. Also, a window
on the hood enables the user to see the agitator and the
WindTunnel technology in action.

- The agitator automatically turns off when the cleaner
is in the upright position and the hose is being used for
above-floor cleaning.
- A 15-inch nozzle width with edge grooming enables faster
cleaning edge to edge.
- Each model has a 12-amp motor, allergen filtration, a
deluxe stretch hose, a headlight, a 31-foot cord and a six-piece
tool set
- Model U6616-900 is sapphire blue and Model U6617-900
is ruby red. The expected retail range for both is $299.95
to $369.95
The powerful combination of features of these new Windtunnel
upright vacuums from Hoover will communicate value to the
consumer and bring greater excitement to a premium, yet competitive,
retail price," Baker said.
